Currently, the Space Elevator would be impratical for two reasons. #1: It would collapse until carbon nanotubes are widespread, and even then it would still be difficult to built. #2: Where would it go? We have absolutely nothing to reach at 100,000 km, it's too high for satellites, and too low for the Moon
