Believed to be the first ever blows of London (No. 3) Surprise Royal to be rung on the complete 1849 Whitechapel ring of 10 (still hanging on their original headstocks, gudgeons and plain bearings of that date) at the famous 'Tractarian-revival' church of St Barnabas, Pimlico. This is part of a - sadly - unsuccessful Quarter Peal attempt in the method rung on Ascension Day 2014 prior to lunchtime Low Mass and rung at the first trial of that method for a performance on these bells. The Tenor (largest bell) is rung here by Christopher J. Cooper who is a member of the serving team at this church on a Sunday. The ringers in this performance were selected by Alan J. Taylor. The performance was conducted by Robin Leale. ----o0o---- Vicar of St Mary's Bourne Street & St Barnabas, Pimlico: Fr David Cherry. NB: This method (London [No 3] Surprise Royal) was first rung on the ten bells at Beddington (Surrey) Parish Church Feb 4th 1933, and was, notably, the method chosen to be rung at Westminster Abbey immediately following the marriage of Kate Middleton to William [Duke of Cambridge]. A recording of that ringing (also filmed among the bells in the Abbey tower - a modern ring of ten, dating from the 1970s and hung on modern fittings - can also be found on YouTube.
