i think that something that really stunted moana in terms of opening weekend is that it wasnt release to the people most excited about it (ie polynesians) until the 26th of december, a full month after the US. frozen's audience was generically disney where as moana's reach in new zealand is everyone/ boy, girls, kids, adults. because everyone wants a chance to see themselves on the screen

Moana doesn't even come out for us until boxing day in New Zealand. Same as Auzie I think. Though boxing day is a good day to go to the movies so I suppose I can wait. But Star Wars... seen it, loved it (and Doctor Strange, am on the fence about Fantastic Beasts)

Fantastic Beasts is totally a success, it's matches Strange's 5 week total in only 3 weeks

im SOOO proud of Doctor Strange, because so far, it's the highest worldwide grossing solo marvel movie that they've made. The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, Ant-Man. NONE of them got THAT popular overseas. also, you can say whatever about domestic numbers, but i think what's making more of a success is that it has a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. THAT'S A BIGGER SCORE THEN CIVIL WAR. albeit, it's only a 1% difference, but a 1% change can make all the difference in the world.

What? Prisoner of Azkiban was possibly the greatest Harry Potter movie released.
-
main takeaway would be the words on screen are different from the words spoken
-
Does anyone know when Jackie and La La Land get wide releases?
-
Seeing Rogue one next week Thursday!!!! Since it opens here on the 15th This December

Hi Grace, I have a question! =)
Hacksaw Ridge just picked up most of the big awards at the AACTA's here in Australia last night, including Best Film, Best Actor for Andrew Garfield and Best Director for Mel Gibson.
...So I am curious; do the outcomes of some overseas award shows influence the buzz over in the States for the Awards run there, or do they not register at all? I know that small awards like the AACTA's probably don't, but what about awards like the BAFTA's?
That ended up being two questions! oops, sorry! They probably sound a bit silly, but I would love to get your insight. =)
I am a big fan of your show, and look forward to your updates all the time. Thank you and Seasons Greetings from Australia. =) -
I'm a HP fan and I'm not entirely happy with the casting of Fantastic Beast, which made me only watch Fantastic Beast once. I don't know. It is a decent movie. I just don't care as much about Newt, Tina and Credence as I care about those characters in HP. Especially Eddie Redmayne, he always gives me that try-hard to be likable and outstanding feeling. I enjoy Colin Farrel the most, yet Depp stepped in. euh even more terrible casting. So underwhelming.

Where I'm from (Singapore), the two big releases this week are "La La Land" and "Sing," so I'm planning on catching those :)
-
Grace do you think dc should move justice league to 1st week of august now that alien covenant left the spot open? im worried in nover it will get the domestic blues too :/
-
yeah I only watched Moana because I had not seen it yet and I loved it far more than Frozen, almost as much as Big Hero 6 honestly. Big Hero 6 being my favorite of the Iger era movies.

Hey Grace,
I'm a big fan of the show and I have a question that I've always wondered about, and I reckon you'd have some insight. I read somewhere that they won;t ever do a Fred Astaire biopic because he denied permission in his will, or something like that. Is that even possible? I ask because I've heard of movies and TV shows featuring characters or even about real people and they haven't given their blessing.
Do you need permission from the person or from their estate to feature them in their movie? Would they have any say in the final product?
I really hope you can shed some light into this for me. Muchos love! -
The staggered release for Moana is particularly annoying here in NZ. Auckland, the largest polynesian city in the world, has to wait until 26 December. The local polynesian kids are not happy, though they are glad the rest of the world finally gets to experience a bit of their culture.

i thought canada counted for domestic also??

I think Natalie Portman really needs to get a reality check as her films are bombing like a Suicide Bomber. She really needs to stop making films, or stop being the main star of her films as no one is really interested in her films. Its a shame because she's a great actress.

Fantastic Beasts is doing great for a new film without the help of Harry Potter. Its good for a new franchise

Doctor Strange will hit 700 million. That's amazing for its 1st outting.
