Was interested to see that one of Churchill's favorites was "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," an American song composed by Julia Ward Howe, an abolitionist, and used by the North as a battle cry during the Civil War. Churchill, of course, was half-American, but he himself had never heard the tune until he visited Roosevelt in D.C. after the U.S. entered the war, when he immediately fell in love with it after hearing it at a church service, later stipulating that he wanted it sung at his own funeral, as it was done so beautifully.

He sacrificed Eastern Europe for the Western peace... :(

Notice how all the truly smart and diabolical WW ll leaders either died in office after successfully holding on to power (Roosevelt and Stalin) or died after a long life full of achievements (Churchill). Oh, and they all received lavish state funerals too. On the other hand, the truly idiotic and less diabolical ones were either executed in defeat (Tojo, Mussolini, Antonescu) or committed suicide in defeat (Hitler). They had no idea what kind of men they were dealing with.

God there is a lot of idiots on the Internet. Churchill was a great man who led Britain to victory. He didn't start the war against Germany. That was Neville Chamberlain. There was no holocaust in the UK either. How can you idiots think he was a murderer? Every year I do a Battle of Britain parade and there is always Churchill quotes.

We the people, of the United States of America, can't fully express our gratitude for your service to your own country, your allies, humanity, and the world.
Personally, I think that you are one of the best humans to have ever lived.
We salute you,
Sir Winston Churchill,
1874-1965,
Always there to protect -
My father RN was there, he said he lined the route. I always look but can never see my dad. He was 19 at the time, I am 43 and wish I could just see my dad.

How depressing for the Queen - to converse with the mighty and commanding Churchill - and then all the rest. She must have been bored out of her mind all these years. No need to comment further.
