Call it captivating, call it romantic, call it a unique Middle Eastern experience. After dark, the fountains beside the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa Tower come alive. These are no ordinary fountains -- they can dance! Arabic music flows through the air as flocks of tourists and locals alike crowd the plaza beside Burj Khalifa Lake. Developer EMAAR Properties hired WET Design, the company responsible for constructing a similar dancing fountain at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. There's one major difference between the dancing fountains at the Bellagio and Burj Khalifa Lake -- the scale. Like nearly all projects undertaken in Dubai, the Burj Khalifa Lake Dancing Fountains are the biggest, most advanced, and priciest in the world. The total project was completed at a cost of nearly $218 million. The Arabic music performances utilize 6,600 lights and 25 colored projectors. The water jets are capable of shooting 240 feet into the air. The Dubai Fountain performs twice in the afternoon, at 1PM and 1:30PM. In order to get the full effect, it's best to take in the show at night. From 6-10 during the week and 6-11 on weekends, the show can be seen on the half hour. Although the Dubai Dancing Fountains are amazing in their own right, watching the reaction of the crowd is fascinating as well. The first time I saw the Dubai Dancing Fountains, it brought back memories of watching my first fireworks display from my childhood. Lots of ooooooohhhhs and aaaaaahhhhhhhhs as the water skillfully dances to Arab tunes and world music alike. Here's a partial list of songs played alongside the Dubai Dancing Fountain: •"Sama Dubai" •"Baba Yetu" •"Shik Shak Shok", an Arab dance tune by Hassan Abou El Seoud •"Inshed An Aldar" ("Ask About Home") •"Con te partirò" (Time to Say Goodbye), by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman •"Dhoom Thana", a song by Abhijeet •"Waves" ("Amvaj") by Bijan Mortazavi •"Bassbor Al Fourgakom" by Emirati artist Hussain Al Jassmi •"I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston •"All Night Long" by Lionel Richie •"The Magnificent Seven" by Elmer Bernstein •"Thriller" by Michael Jackson •"Ishtar Poetry" by Furat Qaddouri •"Mon Amour" •"O Mio Babbino Caro" by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa •"Enta Omri" by Hossam Ramzy •"The Prayer" by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli •"Lana Allah" by Mohammed Abdu •"Ezel" •"Flying Drum" •"Butterfly Lovers' Violin Concerto" •"Ensan Akthar" •"Everybody On" •"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" •"Ishy Bilady", The UAE National Anthem
