Anyone can claim descent but they could be from a bastard line, and the laws regulating royal succession were not around for over 200 years after the death of Richard III. The only thing holding a claim's legitimacy was tradition. If you could race to the church faster than the other heir and get coronated first you would be king no crimes would have been committed you would be king in your own right.

One could go back even further to say that the current royals do not have a legitimate claim to the throne. King William II was killed in 1100 AD in what was officially ruled a hunting accident. He was succeeded by his brother, Henry I. Upon the death of his brother, Henry went to get the royal treasury in his possession. Henry also cancelled his brother's planned invasion of France. Perhaps there was a conspiracy between the French and Henry whereby the French would make Henry King by killing William, and Henry would repay them by scrapping the invasion plans.

And? Henry VII smartly claimed his right by conquest not by blood (his line having been barred from bloodline succession) so this is a moot point. Even if Edward IV was illegitimate, Richard III was not. Henry killed the rightfull king and took his legally begotten place on the throne.

this is no secret... the "royal family" has changed several times over in the last 1,000 years. The current one is actually German, but who cares? I probably have more claim to the throne than they do.
