Death Jump - Franz Reichelt jumps off the Eiffel Tower: On 4th February 1912, wearing a crazy homemade parachute contraption Reichelt hovers on the brink for a while having doubts before suddenly jumping to his death. A crowd watches from below including most of the Parisien media. They then measure the depth of the hole made by the impact of his body. Moral of the story : Don't jump off the Eiffel tower, kids.

At least Franz died doing what he love and he was trying to prove that his parachute would work.

In 1903 wright brothers invented flight....this guy Reichelt gives it a whole new meaning!!!

I THINK THAT WAS AN IDIOT IDEA WHAT IS WAS PROVING LAW OF GRAVITY
WHY NO CHOOSE A LOWER AND SAFE DISTANCE OR AT LEAST PLACE SOME SOFT SURFACE AT THE GROUND TO ASSURE YOUR SAFTY

I'm not sure about you, but I think this invention is ground-breaking.

Looks like King Kong as he makes his ill fated wingsuit flight.

FAIL (◎_◎)

How did his body not smush to peices from the impact? You could even see the dust from the impact from the force of the hit.
-
It is more like he committed suicide.wtf?

1:19 at that moment he knew...he fucked up

I'm not sure it would've worked to begin with, but it didn't see like his arms were stretched out enough upon jumping. I'm no expert by any means, but how could he get the lift he needed the way he was holding his arms when he jumped? Like a flying squirrel or a wingsuit (which obviously didn't exist yet), the arms are outstretched so the "web" can resist against the air, right? From what I read, he did this at such a height because he was convinced lack of height was why other tests weren't working. But he should've jumped into a body of water or something. I admire his aspirations to invent something, but... that really wasn't the best plan.
