You can use the Google Maps JavaScript API to mark up a map with a variety of annotations, such as markers, polylines, polygons, etc. The google.maps.Data class is a container for arbitrary geospatial data that has no predefined settings about how data should be rendered. The google.maps.Data follows the structure of GeoJSON in its data representation and makes it easy to display GeoJSON data. Here we present a short introduction to the feature and show some examples using it.

Hi, I am pretty new in developing codes for Google map. Actually my main interest would be adding features to Google sky (I am an astronomer). Since the infrastructure is already available (provided by Google), we are interested in visualizing a map of galaxies in the local universe. Nowadays the number of galaxies is huge and visualizing everything on top of each other is a bit difficult. I am wondering if there is any way to just use google-map technology (not necessarily google earth map or google sky map) and we add our own object.
For example, just a uniform blue background, with the galaxies displayed on top of that as circles with different sizes and colors would do the job. I don't want to see the Earth map, or the other Sky objects.
A galaxy Atlas has been already published back in 1987. This small picture may help to understand better what I am going to do: https://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/level5/March04/Virgo_cluster/Tully4.html
Our current version has ~17,000 galaxies all over the sky. -

What exactly does the addfeature event do?

This opens a lot of opportunities for not only Enterprise/Commercial applications, but also, games. A very nice addition to Google Maps.

Is this available for Android as well? If not, any plans on the roadmap?
