Joan Cheever, a philanthropist from San Antonio, was fined $2000 on Tuesday for feeding homeless people. Cheever has been serving food to the hungry for years. She founded the Train Chow, a nonprofit mobile truck where she cooks high quality meals that she then distributes to people in need. Her charity work has been recognized by Rachael Ray's cooking show, which celebrated her food truck at the end of last year. On Tuesday night four bike-patrol officers showed up while she was serving food and fined her $2,000. Cheever was cited for serving food from a vehicle without a permit, her car, which she was using because her truck, which had a permit, lacked space. She argued she has the right to serve food to people under the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act as serving the poor is a way to respect the dictates of her religion. Nevertheless, Cheever is scheduled to appear before Municipal Court on June 23. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets.
