Gun salutes at the Tower of London and Hyde Park commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's 89th birthday. Full Story: Britain's Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 89th birthday on Tuesday. She is the oldest living monarch since Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah died in January at the age of 90. At the Tower of London, 62 gun salute took place and In London's Hyde Park, a 41 shots were fired to commemorate the occasion. The Queen's official birthday is usually celebrated in June, with the 'trooping of the colour' parade through the Mall in central London. In September, Elizabeth II, will overtake Queen Victoria to become the United Kingdom's longest serving monarch. The queen has been on the throne for 62 years, since her coronation at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953, at the age of 27. She will welcome her second great grandchild later this month, after the birth of Prince George in 2013 to her grandson William, the Duke of Cambridge and his wife Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.
