http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/edward_viii/12921.shtml Follow this link for a BBC interview with the Duke and Duchess on the occasion of this visit to England for the unveiling of the memorial to Queen Mary, their first official engagement in the United Kingdom since the abdication: Everyone says Wally was such a cow but even if she does look a bit like the Wicked Queen in "Snow White" in this clip it's quite clear that she was perfectly nice and that David's family didn't ignore her. How could they? She had all the jewellery! Mummy always said the royal gifts she herself had been proud to receive were nothing compared to the loads put around Wally's neck (but then Mummy could be bitter about Wally's 'eastern advantage.'). Ignore what people say. Cookie loved them both and always said she was glad that David got what he deserved!

There is another rendition of this occurrence in black and white on YouTube, in which certain scenes are not omitted as they are in these. In that rendition you can clearly see the Queen and members of her family (like the Queen mother and the Duke of Gloucester) greeting the Duke and Duchess very cordially, shaking hands and kissing.

I love the hostile body language between the Queen Mother and Wallis Simpson, who pointedly never look at each other! Awkward!
-
Was there a family gathering after this and were the duke and duchess of Windsor invited?
-
Curtsy or no curtsy? Bollocks! Do you people think you can teach manners to David? Forget it!

Edward was struck by the American Wallis due to her modernity, humor, independence and intellect. The reason for his attraction was very easy to recognize. He had not met a female soul like her prior to their meeting.
-
Did anyone notice that David bowed to Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother as she walked by? He did not bow to the Queen though.
-
Queen Mary had ice water in her veins.

I can't help be wonder if anyone at the ceremony noticed that Wallis' hair looked like the queen of hearts from "Alice in Wonderland". I wonder if that was her trying to say, "off with her head" to Queen Elizabeth in a sly way.

It isn't a requirement that anyone curtsy to the queen. It is done out of respect for her. I am an American and would never curtsy to her, she would not be offended. I saw a video of her greeting guests at one of her outdoor teas. One of the guests was actor Mickey Rooney. When introduced, he did not bow, but kissed her hand when she presented it to for shaking.
-
Should Wallis have curtsied to HM The Queen when she walked onto the platform or not? I can't remember if Wallis remained an American citizen.
-
Wallace didn't curtsy when HM the Queen arrived.

Wallis didn't curtsy when HM the Queen Mother arrived.

I've always felt quite sad for The Duchess...she never meant to cause the ruccus she did....She was forgiven by the end...but not by the Queen morher

I am very pro royal but I do think they've got a bloody nerve. Queen Elizabeth was allowed to marry a greek man with sisters all of whom were married to Nazis!! However Edward King of England could not marry someone who was divorced (and American). All they have done in the last 70 something years is force their family members to marry people they were not in love or to NOT marry people they were in love with and now 3 out of 4 of Elizabeths children are divorced as was her sister! Hopefully Kate Middleton is finding it much better than Diana did living behind those walls!

HM The Queen Mother acted as if they (the Duke and Duchess of Windsor) weren't even in attendance.

ROYAL IDIOTS

American Pussy, American Pussy! My Kingdom for American Pussy! So much for brit royalty. Whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean

I honestly don't understand the utter hate the Royal Family bestowed on the Duke and Duchess. It's really sad that they held them as if they were not family.

There has been no lack of controversy about the man who gave up his throne for love. In the alternate history novel, King Edward the Last, one finds a fascinating tale on what might have happened had Edward not abdicated. There’s a short video about King Edward the Last on YouTube.
