A playthrough of Sierra Games and The Odd Gentlemen's King's Quest Chapter 3: Once Upon a Climb, the third installment of Activision's reboot of the classic Roberta Williams PC series, released 4/2016. This video was recorded from the PS4 version with an X-Capture 1 USB3 capture device via HDMI. This is the kind of quality I'd like to see going into the later chapters! After the fantastic first chapter and the disappointing second, I wasn't sure what to expect with 3. It's excellent, well on par with the original. What I think I appreciated about this one was how heavy it went on the references made to the original KQ series. They're put in subtly though - if you don't know them, you won't even notice a reference is being made. It's a pretty cool way of making it really familiar to fans but making sure it doesn't alienate any new fans. I laughed quite a bit at Cedric's kidnapping in the opening scene. The context of the whole story and how it fits into the KQ universe is pretty neat too - it's like an alternate extended director's cut ending for a movie, except it's running alongside the original Kings Quest II. Instead of just running off to the tower and grabbing Valanice in the original, Graham becomes a princess, and then does all sorts of amusing things that really sit nicely in-line with Roberta Williams' style of comedy and sadistic puns. More than anything, this one really felt like playing a Disney movie - its all so vivid and alive, and is somewhat more effective than King's Quest VII was at succeeding with the cel-painted look ;) And yes. The song that plays from time to time in the background IS "Girl in the Tower." Too bad they didn't play the vocal version in the credits! Chapter 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmN9Y4XfHg0 Chapter 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqfSaOfcxYk Also, is it just me, or does some of the stuff here seem to suggest the origins of Mananan, Mordack, and Icebella? And graphically, isn't the house on the "tower" actually the setting for half of King's Quest III? And for those that dreaded the stone step copyright protection "puzzle" in KQ6, it makes an encore appearance here, but its just a easy jumping puzzle. Thank God. _____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
