Dubai, Kingston Police Seeking to Identify Woman Posing as Nurse or PSW

16-5628, 16-5643 Detectives with the Kingston Police Vulnerable Sector Unit (VSU) are investigating multiple reports of a woman, dressed as a nurse or personal support worker, illegally entering into seniors’ residences for what they believe to be for theft or fraud purposes. To date two specific occurrences have been filed, but detectives believe other senior residents in Rideaucrest Towers, located at 205 Rideau Street, may have been targeted. Beginning at approximately 2:20 p.m. on February 28th a woman dressed in a dark blue shirt and pants, resembling that of a care worker, entered the front lobby of Rideaucrest Towers. She was also wearing a white long-sleeved shirt underneath the scrubs, white running shoes, black prescription glasses and a beige or light-brown ball cap. She is described as being in her 20s to 30s in age, approximately 5’7” in height, 130 pounds in weight, medium build, and light-coloured hair. It is unclear if she has short hair or if it is pulled-up under her hat. She appears aware of the video surveillance camera in the lobby and makes deliberate attempts to conceal her face. While the building is secure it appears the woman waited until interior doors were opened by others to gain entry. She then unlawfully entered into at least one senior’s apartment and when asked by the occupant who she was she gave conflicting statements. Initially she said she was from across the hall but then said she was a worker from the adjoining Rideaucrest Nursing Home and was checking to see if any of the residents in the building had influenza. The woman left and it does not appear anything was stolen. Investigators have received further information that similar tactics occurred to other residents on the same day within Rideaucrest Towers. Kingston Police later received a report that same day, where at approximately 2:00 p.m. an unknown female entered into the residence of a senior couple on Bay Street, not far from Rideaucrest Towers. She matched the same descriptors and appeared to be posing as a nurse according to the complainants. Again, nothing was taken, but police are concerned for the well-being and security of these elderly residents, and that valuables or prescription medication are likely targets. Napanee O.P.P. reported similar occurrences on February 26th and Kingston Police investigators believe this woman may be moving along the Highway 401 corridor between Belleville and Brockville, so she may not be a Kingston resident.
