Welcome back to Let's Play Dark Souls! Sticking to my words! I'm still near base level (6), and showing off the non-linear aspect of the gameplay by fighting all of the bosses you can before Taurus Demon (who's optional anyways) and Bell Tower Gargoyles! On today's journey, I: - Enter the arena with Ceaseless Discharge - Attempt to beat Ceaseless at level 6 - Raise up my Pyromancy Flame... even though I can't use it. Specifically to talk to Quelaana - Head to the Darkroot Garden - Dance the dance of death with Sif - Obtain the Covenant of Artorias Where to next?! Let me know what you guys want to see! Here are the rules: NO Taurus Demon or Bell Tower Gargoyle!

I know I'm 3 years late for this playthrough, but I agree with you on the Dex build part..
The first time I went through this game blind, I went with a strength build, after Anor Londo, I was so powerful with Havel armour, was using the Gravelord's Greatsword, I killed the Four Kings on my second try.. I could take the hits and not stagger.
The friend that challenged me to play this game didn't believe me, and I'm pretty sure he still doesn't.
Now that I'm doing a playthrough similar to yours, it's being a lot more challenging, and I'm seeing the challenge I missed the first time I played this game.
I believe Dex is way harder, expecialy for the PvE side of this game, on PvP it's very balanced, you can kill other players easily, if you play right, but if you miss a dodge, or you get hit by a Stregth build, you're pretty much dead.
Anyway, amazing playthrough, been watching it entirely and decided on doing a similar playthrough.
Very nice commentary and editing, well done. -
Id use red moss clumps. im feed them to farmpt fpr souls

Okay I'm not trying to start a fight but why is this game considered the best out of the souls games? I've played all of them and found Demon Souls and Dark Souls a bit bland ( not really the word I want to use ) I'll admit I didn't beat either of them or get very far. They just seemed to be missing something. Personally I prefer Souls 2 and Bloodborne, perhaps its just the combat it, feels tighter in those two especially in Bloodborne but I guess that's not fair seeing that its based on speed and brutality as apposed to the methodical precision of the other three. DarkSouls 2 in my opinion has the most compelling story and more verity in combat styles, also it has the best atmosphere. Then again maybe Souls 2 and Bloodborne just appeal to me more then the other two.
Also everytime I'm not quite paying attention and you refer to the blacksmith by name, I think someone is calling for me lol. Love the videos keep it up. -
The problem is dex builds need more effort to perfect but when you do it is way better than a strength build can ever get so only an idiot would go for a worse build. This is why I hate when people try to say a thing is balanced because its harder to use, a master of strength combat will pretty much always lose to a master of dex combat no matter what they do.. so why would you go for the strength?
Yes this is an old video but its more because its a point I see made in many games, the stupid "you need to spend more time learning so its fine", -
i was able to beat ceasless as a pyromancer close to where he starts from by rolling out of the way of his hands, took a few tries to get the timing down but i did it!

What are these white rings ive been seeing on the ground?

Titanite demons are easy as fuck...

The Balders had an agreement with the Iron Knights to work together to get to Anor Londo. Nearly all of them died in Sifs Fortress thats why you see Balder Knights and can summon The Iron Tarkus for the Golem boss battle. If you listen to the merchant in the tower where Logans Cage Key is found, he is going insane. He has seen so many heroes and heroines die that he has no hope left, so little by little, starts to lose his sanity.

Ooh, Death by Soapstone. I've been there on my Sun Bro. I've once did the complete opposite too: pop a humanity when I meant to drop a sign after switching from estus.

I just beat Dark Souls 2 today and I directly returned to DS1 now. trying out a DEX build. Man, trying to get the parry and backstabbing right is difficult but I'd really like to play the game this way once and I still have the goal to get all achievements. normally I don't care about these but in Dark Souls...I kinda want to get them all XD
-
the thing about not getting hit in dark souls, is that when you get to new game plus and above, enemies increase in health and damage, the game difficulty hasnt increased. it just takes more time to do things, a.k.a. becoming more tedious.
i have even noticed this in dark souls II, though its not nearly as bad, and they have made a serious effort, but again... still there. when i encounter my first couple red phantom spearman they had about 4000 health. they were incredibly easy to kill and all i could think was, "my god this is tedious".
sidenote: everyone that has 10 attunement, can use pyromancy. when i see people say, "a pyromancy build" i just see a lack of perspective. you can be a STR build with pyromancy, or a dex w/ pyromancy or even a sorcerer build (usually because of the lack of area attacks). that's all im saying.
i mean in dark souls 2, i have a pyromancy flame a black knight halberd, many sorceries, a good shield and a bow. i actually use all of these things (and occasionally a mundane weapon if i can find one with a fast attack) all the time.
god i love that bow... and i sure as hell dont call it a pyromancy build, or a sorcery build for that matter. -
Ugh, thank you for your opinions on the build balancing. I get just as irritated when people complain about some build being too strong. Hell, I've beaten DEX builds before with a STR build. It's difficult as hell when they know what they're doing, but it's not impossible. It comes down to timing and major mind-games.

Before I say my pease about the game, please take note that I have only played the game one, "linearly" and made it to the sitting undead merchant in Undead Berg, on someone else's game, so my knowledge of the game itself is limited and NOT based on personal game play experience.
With that out of the way, I would compleetly agree with what he stated at the end about "the balence of the builds". Dex may seem OP not because of the machanics themselves, but the skill, knowledge, and experiacnce of the player. The Dave here has shown with all the boss fights, a skilled and experianced player can beat a character with "the best build of the game" with a strict focuse on the numbers with a bace build with the bare minimum statisitics to bug bight said character. To put it another non-game-related way, Skill trumps equipment and numbers, but the latter two do mack a difference. That equipment may give the novice a fighting chance against an "ill equipped" master, but only a fighting chance.
I say that being a player of other RPG games, like Skyrim, Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, and Dragons Dogma. That last on, btw, it the closesed I have played and own that has a similar unforgiving nature, with some undeniable differences.
Those are my thoughts and my oppinions alone, so take them with a a healthy dose of salt.
Good videos and very insightful on how the game can be played. When I get my hand on the game my self, I will try to go as linearly as one can, but if I ever get stuck, I may look at some of these options. I am a bight of a role player and "concept player", but I don't think that is advisable for ones first full play-thought of the game. I Find myself already planing my character build and how I want to play, which is leaning towards a quality/dex build with a focus on being an archer/rang attacks. Thoughts, suggestions, and concerns for a first time play-build will be helpful and welcome (though this might not be the place to look for them, but who knows). -
Other than trading a Red Moss to Snuggly, I usually just mass feed them to Frampt for souls. Priscilla is a potential use, but fire attacks make her reappear fairly quickly and she's not that dangerous when you can see her.
-
Red Moss is only semi useful against the fight with Precilla cause she does bleed damage
-
There is one cheesy way to kill Ceaseless instantly and end this madness.
-
Lol he has rung a bell
-
While at the same time, hoping they get lucky and end the bight. A different approach than Thorolund, certainly. This is my own observation, solidified with a VaatiVidya lore video.
-
From what I understand about the Baldur soldiers and the Berenike Knights (big guys with huge shields), including Black Iron Tarkus, they were all there seeking to cure the undead blight. Their nation may have had an epidemic of the darksign more so than the other nations, and therefore sent their soldiers to Lorderan to end the blight. Now, if they had the same motives as Thorolund, then they would kill two birds with one stone by sending a mass amount of undead soldiers to a "lost" land. con

I did a Lifehunt build on the PS3, and when dealing with a large amount of fodder enemies, the bloodred clumps are good for getting rid of any build up that you take and manage it in PvP as well. (For drawn out fights you need to be careful) I just don't like how often the game gives you the clumps when they have one good use. Perhaps in the Priscilla fight or for when you do an armorless run (You'd be surprised how fast bleed builds when you're nude) it'd be useful as well.
