Tokyo, Japan October 26, 2016 Tokyo, Japan October 26, 2016 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte reiterated the Philippines’ commitment to foster business environment in the country during a lunch hosted by KEIDANREN or the Japan Business Federation held at the Prince Park Tower Tokyo Hotel in Japan. As this year marks the 60th year of the establishment of the bilateral ties between the two countries, the President thanked Japan for its role in the Philippines’ industrialization. “Our strengthened strategic partnership reflects the common values and aspirations shared by both countries… We value your support to our country’s industries, development initiatives embodied under industrial cooperation action plan, specifically on the areas of strategic importance to our economic growth such as the automotive sector, manufacturing, small and medium entrepreneurship, industry services and human resource development,” President Duterte said. The President likewise expressed the Philippine government’s support for industries that would provide more jobs and livelihood opportunities for its people. He said that as the country works on making a stronger foundation for continuous growth, peace and order must prevail. In this way, the damaging effects of illegal drugs and corruption will totally be eradicated. “We must also foresee human resource development initiatives through continuing investments in education and productivity in programs to ensure that our people, especially the youth are equipped with the right know-how and values so that they can contribute to nation building,” he added. President Duterte said that the Philippines-Japan strategic partnership has worked well because both countries have obtained much and will continue to benefit from it. He said, “Indeed, Japan is an old and reliable friend of the Philippines and this is the special friendship that we hope to keep and continue to nurture.” President Duterte assured Japan that the Philippines would also be a partner in maritime safety and security in the China Sea.
