Yes i was in 1.6 for some reason i just realized that im going to use 1.7 now though.
The ship is best with 1.7+ of minecraft, the reason the blocks are that purple and black color is because it looks like the version of minecraft you have is outdated. That is the same for the reason with some areas not looking safe, is due to that same reason.
