They should've had a rocket launch a tube that has a squirrel in it and then the squirrel is trained to talk, but then it is all chirping so it hands Tom Cruise a deciphering ear piece that translates it into a message which is of course in Hebrew so only he knows it. Then a pocket knife pops out of the tube and says kill the squirrel in 5 seconds. At which point, the squirrel hears through the translator that its life is in danger and bites Tom Cruise in the nuts. And then flies off the cliff. It turns out the squirrel was a species of flying squirrel from South America due to an ill advised decision. Consequently, a scientist was fired, and the mission changed immediately to track down the squirrel in the movie: Mission Impossible II: Hunt Hunts A Talking, Flying Squirrel
