Dubai Marina is the most spectacular modern area in Dubai. If there was a city centre, this would probably be it. But it's not just the incredible architecture and some of the most impressive and tallest buildings and hotels. Like everything else in Dubai, Marina has also been carefully planned. First, there's the promenade, twisting at the edge of the water. Wide, brilliant, with a bunch of restaurants and cafes. Offering a more European vibe. Going almost 10 km in total, it always feel brilliant to even just walk around, but you can also rent a bike! Then there's the man-made island. Actually, a piece of land cut-off to create the Marina. There you'll find The Walk - the famous almost pedestrian zone (hey, it's Dubai, after all). More hotels, shops, restaurants and other places, but all meant just to make you feel better. And then, there's the beach, right next to all that. Actually, the only beach I've seen in Dubai that offers anything but sand. And here, you have all the fun places you need. Except sports venues, but perhaps they'll get to it one of these days. In short, a truly remarkable area. Still under construction, which causes some problems, but so is the entire city, really. And as you've seen, you can get here by bike (a bit hardcore) or the metro. Actually, driving to Marina would be the worst choice. Special greeting goes to people following standards! If you say a bike path is red, then red should always be a bike path. :) Or if it isn't, it should never be one. You should also use zebra crossings to mark where you should be crossing a street. And you should make it possible to cross a street in the first place. ;) Filmed in April 2014.
