A Tour of BC Ferries' Coastal Celebration. Built in Flensburg Germany in 2007/08, she is the third of the Coastal Class vessels, after her sisters, Coastal Renaissance and Coastal Inspiration. Since her completion she and her sisters have been wrapped in giant adhesive banners, promoting British Columbia and the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. (In 2012, the Olympic logos in the centre of the banner were painted over with the BC Ferries logo in its place) Because the Celebration was built to primarily operate on Route 1, she is the only Coastal built with the Pacific Buffet in place of the Sitka Coffee Lounge. She is also the only major vessel other than the Spirit Class to offer the Buffet. On May 9th, 2008, she left Flensburg and began her voyage to her new home. On May 12th, she made a brief stop in London England stopping to the East of the Tower Bridge on the River Thames to promote British Columbia and invite Londoners to the 2010 Olympics Games. After this, she continued her Transatlantic Voyage with a brief stop in the Canary Islands, through to the Panama Canal, and up the West Coast of North America to British Columbia. On June 17, a day after the Coastal Inspiration entered service on Route 30, she arrived in BC first passing her future home port of Swartz Bay, transiting through Active Pass and ending her 40 day voyage in Departure Bay. A few months later, she entered revenue service on November 19th, 2008. 2 days later on the 21st, her official maiden voyage and a ribbon cutting were held. Since entering service, she has overall operated incident free. The Coastal Class meanwhile (the Coastal Renaissance specifically) have gone on to win a ShipPax Award for Ferry Technology. The Coastal Celebration was also featured on an episode of the TV show "How Machines Work" highlighting her design, navigational, mechanical, and safety features. Filmed on October 24, 2013 © CS16.
