Is this supervisor person Chinese or foreign? His behavior does not sound very Chinese to me...

I feel sorry about your ugly and bad experiences in Shanghai. Normally I can't imagine such horrible experiences when I was in Shanghai (I'm not a Shanghaiese I just had work there). Obviously your internship experience was unfair and it was far from your expectations. From your description I think it's not your fault or incompetency, I guess it's your supervisor or the company's fault which they didn't have thorough plans for the interns. As for the bad behaviours, it's depend on the residence areas in Shanghai. Sometimes shitty things happen, we can't always expect others to behave themselves can we? It has been a year hopefully you have found more nice things in Shanghai or China.

After going through some of your videos, i find you are a really negative person. Rather than complaining online about a foreign city/country you don't have knowledge about, you may better off doing more self-reflection of yourself. Most of the americans I know have really high-esteem, arrogant and self-centered but with low capabilities of doing things and very impolite. I don't know where all these things come from and how american teachers teach in school, but I find it really annoying and maybe it's a nation-wide problem. it's a good try though to step into other culture because you will learn that you're not the only one on earth who should be carefully treated. Dare you say that you're INDEPENDENT and can do SWEEPING after you graduate from college? It's really laughable.

My horror story from China is actually seeing a grown man crouched down and shitting in public from that moment on I was scared for life , also they spit absolutely everywhere 😷

What exactly was your internship? I'm very interested in a paid internship maybe next year so I'm surprised how you could move to a city with no source of income. :/

Well done Nancy! I am also a Foreign born Chinese and I totally get how much confidence Chinese parents give their children lol. You are going to be just fine if you stick to stuff and surround yourself with positive people.

Hey sorry to hear about your intern experience. I've been kind pretty down about my lame summer internship, but listening to this put things in perspective. A lot of people including my parents just told me to stop wallowing and to be grateful I got an internship at all, but I'm glad someone else can sympathize! I'm inspired that you could still put a positive spin on everything, glad you were able to meet cool people!

bless your soul

Ignore the negative remarks.

Probably back tracking way too much but is there a video regarding you hike up yellow mountain? Also, glad to hear your honest opinion and feel for your experience xx

My bestie lives in Shanghai too. Initially i wonder whats with my nice friend getting all uppertyhoitty speaking in English to the locals all the time when we can speak chinese perfectly. But now i get it.... still i cannot comprehend why the preference for foreigners or overseas born chinese??! Shouldn't you be nicer to your comrades or your homies??
About the poop, i dont think that beats the spitting... the hair on my neck just stands up literally when i heard someone starts clearing his throat......
Theres a lot of ewww factors but as soon as you got over them, Shanghai is really the most exciting city i've been too. -
oh yeah, it's totally ok to quit! If in 3 months I didn't like a job, I'd quit. Life can be harsh but you have to take care of yourself and not let people step all over you.

Thanks for your honesty. I can relate to the difficultly of doing things on your own, but as we continue to build experience we can gain greater confidence and perspective in ourselves. Glad you were able to gain that during your journey. And yes board games and relationships built are super awesome!

Damn I am glad I watched this before paying all that money...........

Was your supervisor a foreigner?
-
Basically they curfew creativity in China, too few inspiration and too rigid a system is what make innovation stagnant :(
-
Am so Glad that you made this video. I'm going through the same thing !

Aweh :( Wish we were friends, you and I are really similar. I'm in my second year of uni doing journalism with an anxiety disorder, funfunfun. I wanted to take a break for a year and go to Korea on exchange, but I couldn't get my academic references due to not being in class as a result of my anxiety, even though I always get all my work in on time. I'm scared that I won't finish this semester and also freaking out about the semester to come. So I totally know the feeling of wishing something would happen to you so you wouldn't have to do something. I can't quit college and take a year off out of my own free will since my anxiety will tell me that I failed myself and everyone around me. So I always hope for something to happen to me that puts me in the hospital so that I'm forced to quit school and take a break without feeling guilty, because then I'll feel like I didn't have a choice. Psychological exhaustion is seriously the most terrible thing, because no amount of coffee will make you able to do something that absolutely drains you mentally. I hope you're doing better and are in an environment that feels right to you and stimulates you mentally and emotionally in a positive way! :) Good luck!

I don't understand why anyone would pay to do this kind of internship. Ridicilous.
