JAMNAGAR CITY, INDIA — An Indian parliamentarian visiting a slum neighborhood set for demolition suffered a scary fall after suddenly plummeting into a sewage drain. On May 16, while being interviewed by local journalists about a demolition that was taking place in the neighborhood, the MP happened to be standing on a very weak sheet of concrete. The footbridge was built by slum dwellers shortly before she arrived, over top of a sewage drain. When a crowd of her supporters gathered around her, the footbridge couldn't handle the weight of so many people, and soon gave way. Falling 8 feet down into the sewer, she and a group of others were badly injured, though no deaths have been reported. The MP was quickly rushed to a local hospital to treat a four-inch gash on her head, as well as injuries to her shoulder and foot. Following initial treatment, she was airlifted to another hospital in Mumbai, and is expected to make a full recovery shortly. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoWorld, where we animate the biggest headlines from around the world.
