After taking off together, we lost each other. Its hard to see a small plane on a wide angle camera in the big sky!!! Pudsey-RC had the Keychain cam on. You get a quick view of me in the top left of the picture at 5m36s, before I disappear till he finds me for good at 6m10s. We used the ring road & called out distance from home & altitude to find each other. Once you find each other, its easy to follow, unless you want to loose each other!!! We headed off the ring road towards Pudsey Grangefield School, then down Lowtown, over Pudsey Kongs Cricket club before loosing the signal over Hough Top Fields & RTH kicked in. The video went for a few seconds as the video antenna is mounted behind the prop on our Bixlers (keeps the TX cool) & the signal is then blocked behind the motor! As we both lost picture as we turned& headed home, we lost each other again. So Jon went off on his own, Iacome into shot at 11m38s but although the cam picks me up, Jon could not see me as his cam was facing further down. Then at 14m he tries for a low pass/touch&go on Queens Park before the RTH kicks in & brings the plane home. (WE LOVE RTH) Furthest distance was over 2.5km away. However, since this video was taken, on Monday the 22nd July Jon (Pudsey_RC) has lost his Bixler 2. He was flying solo around Thornbury B&Q & Odean Cinema/Gym, Leeds/Bradford. He was 2km away & had turned around manually to head home when the video went. He assumed all was fine, engaged RTH and waited for the picture to come back. It didn't!!! All he could do was leave it on RTH & wait to see if the plane would return, like it has done every other time. It didn't!!! We can only assume that the Cyclops Storm OSD failed or lost power somehow. The OSD is powered directly from a 500mah 3S battery, which in turn powers the cam & video TX. No power to the OSD, no picture or control & the plane crashes!!! Normally we put a mobile number on the plane in the hope of getting it back (whats left of it). This time however, so sure were we of not loosing the things, we didn't bother. OOOPPPSSS!!!! Its going on mine before I fly it again!!! So if anyone has found a Bixler 2 in or around the Leeds/Pudsey/Bradford way please contact me or Pudsey-RC. He's offering a reward for its return. Set-up on my Bixler2 NTM 1800kv 35/36 motor on HK motor mount 8x8 prop 60A ESC Security Cam 2000 600TVL FPV camera with 180% servo on pan/tilt FatShark 250Mw Video TX Cyclops Storm OSD V1.04 3300Mah 3S for motor & 500Mah 3S for Cam/Video TX FatShark Predator V2 goggles Clover leaf/skew plane antenna's Turnigy 9XR with FR SKY Module & RX with telemetry 7DB Patch antenna Yes I know that the motor is overkill, but the NTM 35/30A 1400kv (Perfect for this) blew, not before taking out the ESC first before we realized that the wire coverings had been exposed, the bare wires touched & blew the ESC. Replaced the ESC & flew it again, luckily when the motor blew it was 500m up & I managed to glide it down. So the only motor I had around was this one. A bit heavy, but does not burn too many Amps once you have it up in the air & can cruise on a whiff of throttle. Not had it anywhere near full throttle yet!!! But it will be very fast with a 4S. Luckily, the wings have a solid carbon 4mm spare inside the standard hollow one, plus a 500mm 4mm carbon spare through the body & fibre taped to leading edge of the wing for extra rigidity. I have resisted gorilla gluing the wings in so far, but the screw system is long gone so I have room for big batteries & to get the C.G right.
