No issues on being a relationship between yourself and God. But if you are muslim, then you follow the Quran and Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad(SAAS) and that is enough. There are many many narrations regarding making mosques more and more opulent and extravagant yet empty of any adherence, obedience and worship.

I would not say totally void of guidance, but yes, work needs to be done here. Too decadent and opulent.
