Dubai, Top 10 MISCONCEPTIONS About the ANCIENT WORLD

I see the error with confusing Da Vinci and Galileo. We will notate this. I think the writer accidentally confused the two, because the source we listed for this in our description (see link: http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/sciurban.htm) shows the name Galileo, so we knew what we meant to write, but wrote the wrong thing. Sorry for this and thanks for the catch from our viewers. If someone dropped two rocks now, I think I would hide under one. For thousands of years now humans have been doing their best to record the history of what happened before them. This insistence on preserving the past allows us to build on prior knowledge, learn lessons from things that have happened long ago, and teaches us about the ancient cultures that went before us. However, through time, misunderstandings, and sometimes people with agendas, the past often becomes blurred or indistinct, and people get only a very confused picture of what actually occurred. The history of the ancient world is often misunderstood, and much of it occurred differently than most people have been led to believe. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 → → GET A T-SHIRT - http://www.toptenz.net/toptenz-t-shirts →Top 10 Objects That Were Clearly Invented Just to Annoy Physics: https://youtu.be/0MVGeRa-vLo Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Human Skulls as mugs? That is the number one misconvention? Come you can do better than that.
-
The Scythian were a colony of Israelites... check it out ;)
-
the Easter heads are not just heads they found that they have bodies :)
-
Why waste salt when you can just kill all the Carthiginians
-
the romans wiped out carthage and wiped any remnant of the original city out, but then they just built their own roman city right on top of it populated with romans.
-
can someone please teach simon how to pronounce things.. DaVinci was one of the most known figures in Italian history, hell world history, and you can't pronounce the name
-
The library of Alexandria was not burnt by invaders but by the local Christian population.
-
Wow... this list is so wrong, misleading or at least running off of speculation or opinion.... damn, no wonder we live in a misinformed society lol.

Iam not sure about the Scandinavians, but know of at least one documented historical case of a human skull being made into a drinking cup. It is from the early IX century. The story is that the Bulgar khan Krum made a cup from the skull of Byzantine emperor Nicephorus I after destroying his army in the battle at the Versinikia pass (if i'm not mistaken) in 811. He had the skull being decorated in silver and precious stones and was giving toasts with it to Byzantine diplomats in order to show how terrible he is.

I want that mug at the end
-
It's pronounced "Da Vin*chi*"

Vikings are less metal then I thought they would be, my life is a lie, and I don't know how I will ever go on...

If the Egyptians never visited the Americas of vice versa. Then how could some of the pharos mummies have been buried with cocaine and tobacco? Also the last one about the vikings is also incorrect. Not sure if the vikings drank from the sculls of fallen enemies. But the sheers in Swedish is called Skål and is thought to come from banging heads together or (skallar). Vikings were not only savages or pirates. most of them did ordinary trading.

Also, the ancient world is more ancient than we have realized as shown by sites like Göpekli Tepe.

Are you JOny Sins?

I like your lists, but you totally misconstrued #10. The spiritual text that were burned in the library in Alexandria could have disproved a lot of what people believe today as religion. Spiritual texts in the ancient world often contained stories in which facts about science or their perceptoion of history were woven into the stories. The final burning of the library was likened to deleting emails that could be used against you. The planet lost invaluable, irreplaceable historic treasures.

Simply awesome.

# 9 was the first misstep I've seen in this otherwise excellent series. There is no mystery about how the pyramids were built. (Note the use of the weasel word "exactly".) Suggesting there may be is nothing more than pandering to the uneducated yokels. Shame on you, TopTenz; you're better than this.

There are so many things in this that are not even close to true. I'm not watching these videos anymore.......maybe.

The skull cup was famously employed in the early 9th century by Khan Krum the Horrible, ruler of what is now Bulgaria. He declared war on the Byzantine Empire, known to itself as Eastern Rome, centered in Constantinople. Their Emperor Nicophorus led an army to Bulgaria and defeated Krum. But Nicophorus himself, deranged by frustration and battle fever, refused to stop fighting. He was eventually found dead on a dungheap. Krum ordered him decapitated and the head boiled. The skull, chased with silver, was made into a drinking mug with which the Khan drank his own health to the end of his days out of the head of the Byzantine Emperor.
