Gold was all the rage at the World Luxury Expo in the Etihad Ballroom at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi on Friday, as some of the world's most expensive smartphones went on sale. Presented by Gold & Co London was the world's first 24-carat iPhone, available in gold, rose gold or platinum for the discerning customer. While Apple released an official gold-coloured iPhone 5S device in China on September 20, the Gold & Co London limited edition iPhones target a more expensive end of the market. The gold version costs 17,500 AED (€3,500), the rose gold 18,500 AED (€3,700), with the platinum valued at 19500 AED (€3,900). The Gold & Co London company has already unveiled in the past gold Burj Al Arab iPad Minis, iPads and iPhone 5s, along with gold Sony Xperias and 24-Karat Porsche design Blackberrys. The Sony Experia Z showcased at the expo is made with 24-carat gold - the only one of its kind with a Russian crest on it. Requested by a corporate client in Russia, it cost $5,000. Amjad Ali, CEO, Owner & Founder at Gold & Co London, says: "Orders this year are 50 percent higher than they were at this point last year, so we have over 160 units on order at the moment and it's growing every day." The World Luxury Expo event lasts from September 27-29. It will then continue to Doha from November 14-16 and then onto the kingdom of Saudi Arabia from January 28-30 2014.
