According to local reports, the cradle was hanging on the tower's 31st floor when its ropes snapped and the counterweight placed on the roof was catapulted into the street below, together with the cradle. A Pakistani national was unloading fruits and vegetables from a van in front of the building when a large piece of the cradle crashed down onto his vehicle. The cradle damaged 12 other vehicles parked in front of the tower, spreading debris over a 200-metres radius. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. According to an eyewitness quoted by Gulf News, "There was a loud crash of metal and people were telling me to get out of the way. A Filipino man was injured and I took him quickly into a nearby shop for him to have time to gain his composure. I saw two other people that were bleeding, and there were people running in panic." The victim was identified as Zafar Iqbal, 30, a Pakistani driver, who transported fruits and vegetables for three years at Jaleel Company, Gulf News reported. According to his colleagues, he wasn't married and lived in Dubai for six years. Investigations involving the building management and authorities are ongoing to find out the cause of the incident. -------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news.
