Kingdom Tower has been re-named "Jeddah Tower", and it will not even be close to a mile in height. The final height will be around 1000 meters....about 3300 feet tall. Right now, it is under construction, and has reached about 45 floors. It's got a long ways to go, but you can watch the progress on a monthly basis. Simply enter "Jeddah Tower Construction Update" and then type the month and year... with the next update being "September 2016". You can also watch the past updates.

Sounds like they want to go into the record books. Ps, I live near the KVLY tower, the tallest structure in the Western Hemisphere and it looks tall, even from 10 miles away at night but its very narrow so it can be hard to see during the day.

"I always applaud the stupidity of human achievement". How would constructing a mile high building be a stupid achievement? If anything that would be a great achievement. The engineering alone it would take to create something like that is incredibly impressive.
