Here's the third test-modeling video with yet another tower! Just this week during Dubai's "Cityscape" developer / architectural / real estate conference, Emaar's chief competitor Nakheel showcased their ambitious plans for "Nakheel Tower" - a skyscraper community of 200+ floors reaching at least 1,000 meters (1KM or 3,280 feet) high. The particular forum thread for the tower on Skyscrapercity's forums shows a height of 1,170 meters and a width of 100 meters so that is what I modeled here in this video (the width of the bulk of the tower is about the same as the base of the Burj Dubai for reference). Being a skyscraper fan I thought it'd be interesting to put one of the former World Trade towers in a random island modeling of the game world - now coupled with the newest soon-to-be Earth's Tallest Structure, the Burj Dubai Tower in Dubai, UAE - updated even further with Nakheel's "Nakheel Tower". Again, the goal of the mod wasn't meant for testing the physics of the game but moreso accurately portraying the towers to help myself and others understand the scale where tall buildings once were and where they're going. WTC Model designed in 3ds Max and imported into the CryEngine. BD Model drafted tier by tier in AutoCAD, then imported into 3ds Max and exported into the CryEngine. Nakheel Tower estimated from various renderings released by the company on SSC and the official nakheelharbour.com project website. The floorplan extrusions were created in CAD, and a rough 3d model created in 3ds Max was then imported into the Sandbox CryEngine. THANKS to Fury, Culwulla, and others for contributing the floorplan designs, tier heights, and other statistical data over at Skyscrapercity - one of the the largest skyscraper forums on the Web! Due to difficulties getting textures to work, you'll have to forgive the bleakness of the buildings. From the original video, at least a simple steel material was used to eliminate some bleakness. Due to the shear complexity of the BD tower, not all tiers look perfect, and the higher ones are most certainly mis-scaled in terms of their width (though the height of each tier is correct). Also, simply due to strugging to even import a somewhat complex model through two different 3d design programs, the modeling for Nakheel Tower is NOT perfect by any means but should suffice for the general shape. The CryEngine for whatever reason did NOT like cones from Max so the top of the spire / pinnacle is a cylinder instead ;) Music is a composure of Arabian themes used by Nakheel for presentation of the tower online. I cut out most of the voice for effect. Both sets of "String" and "Grand" types of music are created by Nakheel. The second track is "Divinity II" by Nobuo Uematsu for Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.... During the tower scene ^_^. Comments welcome. Stupid, accusative, or argumentative comments will be deleted, thanks. Be sure to watch it in High Quality for the altimeter.
